GuruP855C answered 4 years ago. I just took my 2016 Subaru Outback into Dewey Griffin in Washington state with the problem of my key not coming out of the ignition. My car is out of warranty so they gave me an estimate of $235.38 parts and $145 labor ($471) to fix it. I will be contacting the places mentioned above.
today we work on momma's 2015 subaru crosstrek, because the key keeps getting stuck in the ignition. I love m'y Crosstrek and have had almost zero problems. Intermittently over the years the key wouldn't come out when I got to park and I would have to reshift and then it would come out. It always stopped though so I didn't do anything about it. Currently it is happening a lot! To the point that it might take 5 to 10 minutes to get it out.You can see the edge of the battery at the bottom of the picture on the left. I think the advise to have the dealer do battery replacement is because of the possibility of breaking the tabs. I gave it a try myself and it was easier than it looked like it might be. The plastic is pretty flexible.
